Playing in the Mud...

Although I'll be the first to tell you I'm a MODO lover through and through, there is another sculpting app that makes 3D life worth living, Mudbox. After being reminded by Steve Talkowski aka Sketchbot, I DL'd the 30 day trile copy of the new version of Mudbox from Autodesk yesterday to try it out. It had been a while since I'd played with Mudbox and I wanted to see what was new.

Now, as I'm a cute, cool, Japanesey robot, design type guy, this is far from the stuff I normally do, but I do have an inner love for alien beings and I thought it would be fun to throw my tests up for those of you interested in seeing the progress.
Once I got my bearings, I started pushing things around. The tools are simple and easy to figure out. At some point the shape reminded me of movies like Enemy Mines and the alien race from The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai Across the 8th Dimension... John Big Booty...hehe (oh and I'm sure there's a little Cardassian and Kamen Rider in there too). As this was just exploration, I didn't use any reference images from the a fore mentioned films, so they are more of a soft bounce, but they'll serve as my rationale...for now.

This took about 3 - 4 hours to this point and there's still a lot of detailing to do. The back needs way more definition and then I'll move to texture and then Paint. I'll post updates as they happen.

Feedback is always welcome.

*Note: Love that fact it looks like chocolate. d^_^b

First Chibi exclusives...

Here's a look at the first Chibi Charms that was created for a client in NYC name Daruma Asset Managment Inc. I'm mean really, with a name like Daruma how could you not want one of these little guys. Drauma was also a big supporter of the Dreams to Dream show in LA at JANM back in December. BIG thanks to them for helping to make that happen. The design is titled 'Satoi' which translates in this use to 'Being able to discern the true meaning' and speaks to the old world explorers and traders navigating the seas, reading and following the trade winds. The pattern represents the wind. if you look closely at the packaging, you'll find a small butterfly which represents the element of chaos. I think the design came out great!

Back at you soon...

A little 3D...
Here's a little piece of my robot project. This guy is part of one of my robot's mode themes or "Skins" as I've dubbed them. I have no where near the skill level in 3D as my good friend Sketchbot aka Steve Talkowski, or Yoshii, but I'm working on my chops every chance I get. My goal is that before the end of the year I can draw up a character and pump it out in sexy 3D super fast.

DCTO Chibi Charms...

Hey Guys, This is a long overdue update on the SOOP projects.

A lot of people have been asking about the small versions of DCTO and when they are coming out. Well... The DCTO "Chibi Charms" are on there way. I've teamed up with Adfunture to produce the 8cm/3inch pieces. Below is a photo of the prototype in front of the OG version.
This project will be a collaboration. I fired off 9 emails and got 9 "I'm downs with the Chibi project" back. The 10 luck colour artist series line is: Dacosta! (me), Cameron, MAD, Charuca, Touma, leo Espinosa, Julie West, Itokin Park, Jesse Hernandez and Bulpa.
Each designer worked their special brand of magic and I can't to see them out there.

Back shortly with another update...
